Sergio Camello has etched his name into Rayo Vallecano's history books with the best scoring start the club has ever seen. The 25-year-old Madrid-born striker has netted seven times in the opening seven LaLiga matchdays, breaking a record that had stood for over two decades.
This blistering form sees him surpass legendary figures at the Vallecas-based club. Venezuelan forward Julio Álvarez had scored six goals in the first seven games of the 2002/03 season, a mark now overtaken. Camello also beats the five-goal starts achieved by Mexican icon Hugo Sánchez (1993/94) and Brazilian striker Guilherme de Cassio (1996/97).
A striker in supreme form
Camello's hot streak includes goals against teams of varying stature. He has found the net against Alavés, Real Madrid, and Osasuna, and registered braces versus Racing de Santander and Barcelona. His contribution is key for Francisco's side, whose full schedule is available on our fixtures page.
With these seven strikes, the attacker now has 24 goals in 121 top-flight appearances for Rayo. That tally draws him level with Guilherme in the club's all-time scoring charts in the first division. Ahead of him now are Álvaro García (32), Alberto Bueno (28), and Jon Pérez Bolo (25).
Hugo Sánchez, a legend of Mexican and Spanish football, wore the Rayo shirt towards the end of his career. He played 29 league games for the team, scoring 16 goals during a season that ended in relegation to the second tier. Across his entire career in Spain, he featured in 347 matches and scored 234 goals.
Camello, under contract until June 2027, is enjoying the finest form of his spell at the club. His performances, aligning with a positive team dynamic, make him a central figure for the challenges ahead. The team heads into its next home fixture at Vallecas in high spirits, and fans can track the squad's progress on our squad page. The Madrid-born forward will aim to extend his scoring run in the next league outing.
