The LaLiga match between Rayo Vallecano and Athletic Club, suspended last Saturday, will be resumed in the first week of November. The Federation has proposed Wednesday 4 November as the main date to play the remaining 77 minutes, a match that will be held behind closed doors at the Estadio de Vallecas.

Referee Sánchez Martínez stopped the match in the 13th minute after objects were thrown from the stands. "He raised his arms and stopped the match between Rayo Vallecano and Athletic Club, with the players leaving the pitch," the official explained. Police recommended the definitive suspension, which was announced at 14:52. The Madrid club confirmed the decision in a statement: "The match is definitively suspended by refereeing decision on police recommendation."

Protests against the board

The interruption was the result of an organised protest by the home support against the management of president Raúl Martín Presa. Chants of "Presa, listen to the fans" and "Martín Presa, out of Vallecas" echoed from the stand, where players like Isi and Cárdenas tried to dialogue with supporters. The protest united both sets of fans in a message of support for the team and the neighbourhood.

This is not the first time a Rayo match has been affected this year. In February, the game against Real Oviedo was postponed due to pitch safety concerns, and the following week the clash with Atlético de Madrid was moved to Butarque.

Possible returns from injury

The postponement could benefit both teams from a sporting perspective. Athletic arrived at Vallecas without Oihan Sancet and Nico Williams, both injured, and with Aymeric Laporte unwell. Their manager could have them available for the resumption if they recover in time, as regulations allow any registered player who was not substituted or sanctioned in the original match to be selected.

For Rayo, who sit 13th in LaLiga with 8 points, focus must now turn to the next fixture. The team travels to Getafe this weekend, a direct duel against another mid-table rival. Forward Sergio Camello, the top scorer this season with 7 goals, will be a key piece in the search for points. The squad, showing a run of two wins, two draws and one defeat in their last five games, needs to maintain consistency. The league standings can be followed on standings.

LaLiga condemned the behaviour that endangered safety and disrupted the competition, announcing the definitive date would be communicated soon. The alternative to 4 November would be Wednesday 25 November, after the international break.
