Rayo Vallecano have made a better start to this season compared to the last one. The team has eight points from seven games, three more than they had at the same stage of the previous campaign under Iñigo Pérez.
Manager Beñat outlined the progress. "El equipo de Beñat ha sumado ocho puntos en siete jornadas, tres más que con Iñigo en la 2025-26," he said. That improvement places Rayo twelfth in the table, with two wins, two draws and three losses. The team has played 630 minutes of competition, with a performance that translates to an average of 1.14 points per game.
The key to their performance has a clear name: Sergio Camello. The striker is the league's top scorer with seven goals, which have earned his side five points. Camello scored in the draws against Alavés and Osasuna, and netted a hat-trick in the comeback win over Racing. His seven goals in seven appearances are driving an attack that has scored 11 times overall.
The current context is positive. The last match, a 1-1 draw at Sadar, provided their first away point of the season.
The majority of their points, seven out of eight, have come at Butarque, the stadium hosting the team during their exile from Vallecas. After the international break, Rayo will return to their historic home. The next opponent is Athletic Club on October 10th. Three of their next four league fixtures will be at home, against Athletic, Elche and Celta, with just one trip to Getafe. The full schedule is on our fixtures page.
With Camello in fine form and a favourable run of games ahead, the aim is to build on this improved start. The team returns with Augusto Batalla confirmed as sidelined. The Argentine goalkeeper, who has accumulated 450 league minutes, will miss the match against Athletic.
