Spain's Antiviolencia Commission has proposed sanctions for twelve Rayo Vallecano fans over the incidents that led to the suspension of the La Liga match against Athletic Club on October 10th. The proposals include financial fines and stadium bans, adding to a separate punishment already handed to the club itself.
The most severe proposal targets a radical fan identified as throwing a stadium seat that hit the goal net. For this individual, the Commission recommends a 5,000 euro fine and a 12-month ban from all sports venues. For eleven other fans involved in coordinated throwing of paper planes, plastic balls, flares, and bottles, the proposed sanction is a 3,001 euro fine and a six-month stadium ban.
The Commission stated that one of these eleven "actively participated in the three occasions during the match when numerous fans in a coordinated manner threw various objects onto the pitch". It added that "the Police continue to investigate the available images to identify all those who participated in the coordinated action with the aim of proposing the corresponding sanction proposals for them".
These proposals come on top of a punishment already imposed on Rayo Vallecano by the RFEF's Competition Committee. The club was fined 6,000 euros and handed a partial closure of the fondo stand at the Estadio de Vallecas for a future match. The referee definitively suspended the fixture after detecting two waves of coordinated object throwing and two seat throws.
The off-field controversy arrives during a challenging period on the pitch. Rayo Vallecano sit 13th in La Liga with nine points, having drawn 1-1 with Getafe on Saturday. The team has two wins, three draws, and three losses from eight league games, having scored 12 goals and conceded 17. In the wider title race, they trail the leaders by eighteen points.
Their recent form across the last five matches shows one win, three draws, and one defeat, with the draws against Getafe, Athletic Club, and Osasuna following a win over Espanyol. Their next fixture is at home against 18th-placed Elche this Thursday, a key match in the battle at the bottom of the standings. Top scorer Sergio Camello, with seven goals this season, will be key as the team looks to secure three points and move past this episode. The partial stadium closure will be enforced for a match to be determined by the RFEF.
